Wednesday 8/12
Lucky Tubb
(Roots/Country/Rockabilly)
with special guest
Miss Major & Her Minor Mood Swings
Damn the Luck, the new CD release by Lucky Tubb & The
Modern Day Troubadours evokes images of smoke-filled
honky tonks, fallen angels, gun?toting rounders, hard
drinkin? backsliders and hopelessly scarred romantics .
This CD is as honest and real as a hot plate of
biscuits and gravy. The melodies, the production and
the instrumentation on these eleven songs could have
easily fit in on an old Wurlitzer juke box, in any
Texas beer joint, honky tank, or roadhouse, during the
early to mid 50?s, when Ernest (Tubb) had us waltzing
across Texas (another Tubb, Talmedge , actually wrote
?waltz across Texas?) Lucky Tubb has taken it upon
himself preserve his family?s musical heritage and
does so with reverence and pride
"Julie Major is a rockabilly tornado, no doubt about
it. Her powerful vocals will raise the roof as she
covers classic tunes by the likes of Wanda Jackson,
Rosie Flores and Marti Brom with an old-timey honkytonk
sound and heaps of modern verve. Backed by a tight-knit
band playing Gibson guitar, upright bass and drums,
Miss Major yowls and croons timeless songs with a
joyous, reckless abandon. Hep music fans and dancers
better prepare for a whirlwind time when Miss Major
takes the stage."

Carolyn Wonderland
(Blues)
A triple threat with her diverse songwriting, soulful
vocals, and guitar goddess status ? all featured on
over twenty CDs, six of which are her releases ? she
has a pedigree in this business that's hard to match. A
bit of a renegade, she likes to incorporate elements of
Blues, Country, Swing, Zydeco, Surf, Gospel, Soul, and
some nights, maybe even a Cumbia into the musical mix

Sunday 8/16
Kansas City Blues Society's ACOUSTIC SHOWCASE
w/ Guy Davis & the Scissormen

"Guy Davis'a terrific Piedmont blues picker, Davis
never loses sight of the blues as good time music, the
original forum for dancing on top of one'ssorrows."
"This isn?t just a band, it's a mission," says
Scissormen's slide guitar demon Ted Drozdowski. "We
believe the blues is as blood and guts vital and
relevant as it was when the music's giants walked the
Earth, if it's played right. So that's how we play it."
Respecting the music;s roots, but not at the expense of
its future. If that sounds audacious, you haven't seen
one of the Nashville-based group's live shows, where
just a guitarist and drummer harness up the spirit of
the Mississippi hills and make it sound like a juke
joint armada.
