Playing this week at Knuckleheads: James McMurtry, John Mooney,
Moot Davis, and Lil Bryan

Hope you all had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend! Even though the thunderstorms may have cooled the weather off a little, it's going to be a HOT week at Knuckleheads Saloon! Here's this week's lineup:

James McMurtry
PopMatters associate editor, Andrew Gilstrap states:
"When you think of a James McMurtry character, you envision someone staring out over the plains or the water or the highway. Nevermind that the plains are filling up with strip malls, or that the water's banks are infested with lake houses, or that, for all the highway stretched out like the future, there's a good bit that's already been traveled like the past. It's tempting to think of McMurtry as a high-plains drifter version of John Mellencamp, but when McMurtry sings from the perspective of someone who inherits farmland, they're usually moaning that it isn't suitable for a WalMart. Nevertheless, McMurtry's characters can be a contemplative bunch, using those wide open vistas and changing horizons to create keen observations."
You don't want to miss this chance to spend an evening with James McMurtry. The show starts at 7:30PM, with The Rumblejetts. You can order James' music here.

John Mooney
John Mooney's voice is unforgettable. If you've heard him once, you'll always recognize him no matter what he's playing. And play he does! Mooney's distinctive style, a blend of intense, sharp-edged Delta blues with the syncopated second-line rhythms of New Orleans, lets his guitar and vocals exert their powerful spell on you. The songs cut to the bone. If you don't like John, then you just don't like blues. Order John Mooney CD's here This show, starting at 9PM, is going to leave you breathless!

Moot Davis and the Cool Deal with Pete Anderson
Moot Davis is Hank Williams reborn with all new material. You're going to hear that wonderful 50s country sound, rhythmic and wailing, that just jumps with the feeling of dusty roads, pickup trucks, starry summer nights, and county-line honkytonks. New Jersey born Davis has a driving voice that drawls, yodels, and slides over notes, and you'd swear he was from deep in the heart of Texas. His songs are about the open road, wine and whiskey, lovesick yearning, busted relationships, and a hard-nosed realism unfazed by disappointed hopes. Lil Brian & the Zyedco Travelers
It's obvious that Lil' Brian is a man with a mission--to bring da funk to zydeco. And that's nowhere near as strange as you might think; after all, the two share common musical roots. Lil' Brian & the Zydeco Travelers are THE hottest band on the noveau zydeco circuit. Pat's totally hot guitar licks, EJ's heavily funk influenced bass lines, and Lil' Brian's vocals and powerful piano-key accordion all make for the most danceable music to come along in a long time. Order Lil Brian's CD's here! The show starts at 9, so be on time!

That's going to round out another GREAT week of entertainment at Knuckleheads, THE place for live music in Kansas City! Hope to see you there!
