Honky-tonk-turned-smooth country singer with a long and distinguished career dating from the late 1940s.
Best known songs include the high-spirited "Crazy Arms" (1956),
"Danny Boy" (1967),
and the lush and romantic "For The Good Times" (1971)
inducted in the Hall Of Fame in 1992
